Homestays in EnglandHomestays in England

Our homestays in the south of England (Ash, near Guildford, to the West of London) are typically of interest to anyone wishing to immerse themselves in the culture of the UK and to experience life in a British home, as well as working on the English language through lessons with a qualified, experienced teacher.

You will have your own room (with shared bathroom) in our house and be treated very much as part of the family, joining us for meals and socialising with us in the evenings. My husband, John, is an IT consultant, and we have three daughters: Natasha who is currently studying in France, Hannah who is at 6th form college and Tabitha who is still at secondary school. We are all quite musical so you would be welcome to join us, or if you don’t currently play an instrument, why not learn some piano while you are here?

Lessons will typically take place in the mornings in our garden office, with the afternoons left to soak up the linguistic atmosphere and use a variety of resources at your disposal to reinforce your learning, be that TV, DVDs, the Wii, computer exercises / games. You will also be taken on some local outings, including the obligatory visit to the local pub, afternoon tea in a traditional English teashop, walks or cycle rides in the beautiful Surrey countryside, not forgetting a visit to Jane Austen’s house, just 20 minutes away from our home – a must for any lover of the English language. In addition, you will usually have the opportunity to go on at least one day’s outing to for example London, Windsor or Oxford.

Working towards an exam?

If you are working towards an exam, for instance Ielts or the TOEIC, then you may well need a more intensive structured approach to your language learning, including some lessons or guided homework activities in the afternoons as well as the morning.

The Standard Options

  • 3 days (a long weekend), 5 days (Monday to Friday), or a week (7 days) but different durations can also be accommodated

  • All meals shared with me / family

  • Lessons from 9 – 12.30 am (with optional extra lessons in afternoon)

  • Afternoons / evenings – activities / outings

  • At least one day’s outing to London, Windsor or Oxford (or other destination of your choosing in the area) for homestays of 5 or more days

  • A free online lesson before your stay to discuss your requirements more fully and for me to assess your current level so that I can prepare a personalised language programme for you

  • Free transfers from Heathrow / Gatwick or Portsmouth ferry port

 The “Holiday” Option

As explained above our homestays generally involve lessons as well as the immersion experience in a British home. If, however, you would rather take things at a more leisurely pace and combine language learning “on the go” with being out and about in the local area and concentrate more on seeing the sights of the South-East of England, that is very much a possibility. Please contact me to discuss.

Prices

Because each homestay is tailored to your particular needs, the actual price may vary, but to give you an idea of costs, a typical 3-day stay (for one person) will cost about £435, a 5-day stay about £950, while a full week would cost £1230, all inclusive. There will be surcharge for extra guests. Please contact me for further information.
